Understanding Childhood Cancer

(1996 - 1997, The Alberta Children's Hospital)

This program contains approximately 20 hours of information, with thousands of screens and hundreds of QuickTime movies. I was involved in almost every aspect of the creation of this CD ROM, but my primary role was that of Authorware Programmer. I became an expert Authorware programmer during this project. I also ended up being responsible for many production tasks, such as setting timelines, coordinating with content providers, deciding the final look of the piece, and writing the manual, even though I was not officially a Producer.

This is the opening screen of "Understanding Childhood Cancer." Users log on to create a private "records" file on their computer to which they and they alone can return each time they use the program. This "records" file records what they do each time they come to the program, stores any bookmarks they may make, and jumps them to the place they last left off each time they return. First time users are carried through an introduction sequence that ensures they do not overlook anything important the first time through. Subsequent times, they may skip sections they are not interested in.
