One of the neat things about working at the University was working with the students, and being in touch with their neat ideas. Students do not believe that anything is impossible, and it is amazing what comes out when you work with them. For her thesis presentation, Rose Ferronato required that the paintings she was discussing be animated, that is, the motion implied in the brush strokes needed to become actual. Using a combination of Photoshop, Director, and my own artistic license (I was trained as an artist at the Alberta College of Art) I caused the paintings to explode into action. The process began with layering in Photoshop 3.0, where I had to imagine and make visible the elements behind those visible in the painting. Then I made these images into QuickTime movies, which I imported into a Director movie, which was used to demonstrate the pieces. I also created all of the interface elements and programmed it.
