Working with the professors was an interesting part of the work I did at the University of Calgary. All of the professors I worked with were quite brilliant, and somewhat eccentric.
Dr. Sandals is a Star Trek fan, and asked me to view the Star Trek compendium CD ROM in order to prepare myself to work with him. I was very glad to do this, since I am also a Star Trek fan. :-) The lecture itself was on the subject of computer education in the future, and Dr. Sandals made many references to the fantasy future portrayed in Star Trek. He expressed his hope that in reality, computer based education will be used much as it is portrayed in that program, and that children of the future will think nothing of being taught their school lessons on the computer they have at home, and attending school mainly for peer support and social interaction. This program was built in Authorware, and consisted mainly of referenced jumps out to sample versions of the works he was discussing, whcih included many of the ones in this site, as well as some titles created for K-12 schools. |
